Rujak Manis

Here is a sweet, healthy, refreshing snack or small meal!
You can eat this dish with any fruit or vegetable you can think of! I usually eat it with pineapple, mangoes, cucumbers, prawn chips, jimaca, and tofu. The sauce you dip all the things in is basically ground brown sugar and peanuts. Think of it as a fresh take on fondue.

Mie Ayam and Mie Ayam Jamur

Who doesn't like noodles? Noodles are great because you can make so many dished out of them! Here are two that I like to make.

Pangsit Mie Ayam Jamur, aka Wanton Chicken Mushroom Noodles, are a family favorite! It is a great meal that doesn't leave you feeling bloated  but fills you up. The dish is a bit salty but the boiled wantons balances it out perfectly! The topping is a stir-fried diced chicken and mushroom seasoned with soy sauce and garlic. It is a great dish for lunch and dinner that you can make ahead.

The second dish is Mie Ayam Bakso. This is basically the same as the first one except that it has meatballs replacing the wantons. Another thing is that it has steamed u-choy on the side. Both are delicious and great for lunch and dinner, plus it is easy to put a twist on these dishes!

Snacks: Lumpia Bash and Pastel Goreng

Snack doesn't always have to be boring here are two of my favorites!

Lumpia Basah is a cross between crepes and spring-rolls. The skin is like a crepe but a bit softer while the filling is bamboo shoots, chicken, and shrimp. Top it off with some garlic hoisin sauce yum!

If you're up for something more savory Pastel Goreng is probably the better choice. For comparison, it is basically an Indonesian empanada. The difference is that it has a thin crispy skin that just cracks when you bite into it! The filling is chicken, vermicelli, carrots, potatoes, and egg. This is basically the perfect mini meal on the go!

Ayam Tulang Lunak and Bistik Ayam

First up is Ayam Goreng Tulang Lunak aka Fried Soft Bone Chicken. I know it sounds crazy but it's actually really good! Since the bone is soft you can eat it, like soft shell crab.
Next is Bistik Ayam made from a Cornish hen. The sauce is sweet and tangy, there's not anything you can really compare it to. Usually it is eaten with potatoes baked, fried, or mashed! Of course you need to get your daily serving of vegetables so it is topped of with some fresh lettuce.

Bakwan Campur

Taking a break from dessert here is a soup called bakwan campur. There are a ton of different variations of what you want to put in the soup. This time it has xiao mai, bakwan goreng, yong tofu, and meatballs.

Winter Desserts

I found some extra yams in my kitchen so I decided to make a winter dessert. Its perfect for winter, warm and sweet. It's crazy how just yams, coconut milk, brown sugar, and pandan can make this awesome dessert. The smell is great too, it makes my mouth water just thinking about it!  Biji Salak is a popular traditional dessert from Java that you have to try.
Here's another winter dessert called Wedang Ronde. It's a lot more colorful but just as tasty. Each little ball is filled with sweet peanut, but you can always change that. The broth is made from ginger so it really warms you up. Both of these desserts are great on cold days, which is your favorite?

Pudding

Birthday pudding cakes for my niece and daughter. Creamy like ice-cream cake but never melts!

Duck Cupcakes

Cupcakes I made for a friend's baby shower (Congratulations!). The decorations are made from fondant and icing.

Kue Lapis

Fresh out of the steamer! They ended up sweet and chewy just like home.I had a little extra batter so I made a mini one too. These are sweet, cute, fun, and chewy all in one!
